Nottingham Forest’s goal for the upcoming summer is to offload a player earning £45,000 per week, though it’s anticipated that they will incur financial losses in the process.
Reports indicate that Nottingham Forest are actively seeking to sell a player this summer following a disappointing season at the City Ground. The Athletic has provided this insight. The board at Nottingham Forest faces the task of financial balancing after the Premier League penalized the club with a four-point deduction for breaching financial regulations.
According to The Athletic, Nottingham Forest is likely to sell either Odysseas Vlachodimos or Matt Turner during the upcoming transfer window, with at least one of Nuno Espirito Santo’s goalkeeping options expected to depart. Signs point towards the Greece international being the one to move on. Vlachodimos has made only five Premier League appearances this season and has been omitted from the matchday squad in the last six fixtures, while Turner has featured in 17 Premier League games, suggesting he is Nuno’s preferred backup behind Matz Sels. Vlachodimos currently earns £45,000 per week at the City Ground, a wage that Nottingham Forest cannot justify for a third-choice goalkeeper.
The Athletic notes that Nottingham Forest is unlikely to recoup the £7 million paid to Benfica for Vlachodimos back in September, indicating that any sale would result in a financial loss.
Given the struggles in the goalkeeping department this season, apart from Sels, Nottingham Forest would benefit from a complete overhaul. Turner’s performance has been disappointing, and the need for an emergency signing in January, in the form of Sels, highlights the inadequacy of both Turner and Vlachodimos. With Nottingham Forest facing financial constraints, selling Turner and Vlachodimos should be among the club’s priorities in order to recoup some of the significant expenditure and streamline the squad.
