“Tennessee Volunteers Dominate with a Commanding 15-3 Victory in Friday Night Clash”
The No. 20 Ole Miss Rebels got off to a rough start in their weekend series against the No. 7 Tennessee Volunteers, suffering a heavy 15-3 defeat in Knoxville on Friday night.
Despite a successful upset against the No. 20 South Carolina Gamecocks in their SEC opener last weekend at Swayze Field, the Rebels squandered several opportunities at the plate in the first game of their series against the Vols. Junior left-handed pitcher Gunnar Dennis took the mound for Ole Miss but struggled, managing only one scoreless inning against Tennessee.
The Vols got on the scoreboard with an RBI single in the bottom of the second inning, followed by back-to-back homers off Dennis, allowing Tennessee to establish an early 5-0 lead. The third inning brought further challenges for the former JUCO pitcher, as a three-run homer prompted Ole Miss coach Mike Bianco to replace Dennis on the mound.
