Las Vegas Raiders Respond to Josh Jacobs’ Departure with Acquisition of Alexander Mattison..
The departure of former All-Pro running back Josh Jacobs prompted the Las Vegas Raiders to acquire Alexander Mattison, formerly of the Minnesota Vikings, to bolster their running back corps.
While Mattison held a starting role for much of the previous season with Minnesota, his position within the Raiders’ lineup may not mirror that. Nonetheless, his addition significantly enhances the depth of the team’s running back group.
In a discussion on the “2024 Raiders Free Agency Show,” Raiders General Manager Tom Telesco addressed Mattison’s signing, highlighting his versatility and physicality.
“He possesses a diverse skill set,” Telesco remarked. “Standing at 220 pounds, he exhibits a physical and aggressive running style. He’s familiar with a scheme similar to what we plan to employ, having experienced it during his initial years in Minnesota. Additionally, his ability to catch passes out of the backfield is crucial in today’s pass-oriented league. Despite his size, he remains an agile athlete. We envision a rotation of three or four backs, with Mattison competing for carries.”
