Ex-Louisville guard Tre White reveals his choice of transfer destination.

Another former member of the Louisville men’s basketball team has emerged from the transfer portal.

Guard Tre White revealed on Tuesday his decision to commit to Brad Underwood’s program at Illinois.

White joins two other former Cardinals in finding new transfer destinations: guard Skyy Clark is returning to UCLA, while forward Brandon Huntley-Hatfield has opted to stay in the ACC by choosing NC State.

White’s commitment comes in the wake of the departure of eleven Louisville players into the transfer portal following the dismissal of second-year head coach Kenny Payne on March 13. This exodus leaves Louisville without any scholarship returners for the 2024-25 season.

During his solitary season at Louisville, the 6-foot-7, 205-pound guard/forward proved to be one of the team’s consistent interior scoring threats and rebounders. In 29 games with 26 starts, he averaged 12.3 points per game (fourth-highest on the team) and 5.9 rebounds per game (second-highest). Additionally, he boasted a 45.6% field goal percentage (third-highest) and made 106 two-point field goals (second-highest).

A native of Napa, California, White began his collegiate career at USC before transferring to Louisville. His impact was immediate, contributing 9.0 points and 5.1 rebounds per game while shooting 47.4% from the field. He earned recognition on the Pac-12 All-Freshman Team and helped guide the Trojans to a 22-11 record and an NCAA Tournament appearance.

With only walk-on guard Hercy Miller set to return from the previous season’s roster, newly appointed head coach Pat Kelsey and his staff have been actively recruiting since his appointment on March 28. The Cardinals have secured commitments from transfers Reyne Smith and James Scott, both of whom played under Kelsey at Charleston, along with former James Madison standout and 2024 Sun Belt Player of the Year Terrence Edwards Jr.
