Arkansas football quarterback Jacolby Criswell is anticipated to declare his intention to enter the transfer portal.
Arkansas football quarterback Jacolby Criswell announced via social media on Monday his decision to enter the transfer portal.
Expected to compete with Boise State transfer Taylen Green for the starting quarterback position, Criswell found himself taking limited reps with the first team during spring practices. He appeared to fall behind redshirt freshman Malachi Singleton in the battle for the backup role to Green.
During the spring game on Saturday, Criswell primarily worked with the second team, completing 3-of-8 passes for 19 yards. Meanwhile, Singleton impressed, going 3-for-6 with 84 yards and a touchdown, and KJ Jackson completed 15-of-22 passes for 107 yards.
Criswell spent one season with the Razorbacks, serving as the backup to KJ Jefferson and seeing minimal playing time. He notably stepped in during the season finale against Missouri after Jefferson’s injury, completing 12-of-20 passes for 96 yards and a touchdown in a 48-14 loss.
Arriving as a transfer from North Carolina last offseason, Criswell leaves Arkansas with two years of eligibility remaining. He previously backed up Sam Howell and Drake Maye at North Carolina, both of whom have moved on to significant roles, with Howell becoming the starting quarterback for the Washington Commanders and Maye projected as a top-five pick in the NFL Draft. Criswell, a highly touted recruit out of Morrilton High School in 2020, was ranked as the No. 2 player in Arkansas and the nation’s 11th-ranked dual-threat quarterback by the 247Sports Composite.
