NFL coaches offer less-than-flattering assessments of Brock Bowers, describing him as “less explosive” and “an expensive luxury item.”
Georgia tight end Brock Bowers, who was nearly unstoppable in college, might need a recalibration of expectations from fans regarding the 6’3″ receiver.
According to The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman, an NFL scout described Bowers as “a real athlete” but noted that he’s “smaller and a little less explosive than people thought.” The scout sees Bowers as a quality starter, likely playing in the slot as more of an F-tight end, drawing comparisons to Evan Engram. Another offensive assistant echoed a similar sentiment, suggesting that Bowers possesses strong route-running abilities, perhaps surpassing Engram in that aspect.
Despite Bowers’ impressive college stats—175 catches for 2,538 yards and 26 touchdowns—his transition to the NFL may require adjustments. While he may not have the same physical dominance in the professional league, his reported 40-yard dash time of 4.53 seconds in a private workout demonstrates solid speed for his size. For comparison, Rob Gronkowski, who is taller and heavier, ran a 4.68 40-yard dash, while Travis Kelce and George Kittle posted times of 4.61 and 4.52 seconds, respectively.
Although Bowers may not match the physical stature of these players, it doesn’t necessarily limit his potential in the NFL. While there are no guarantees of success, there’s optimism that Bowers can establish himself as a reliable target in the passing game and enjoy a fruitful career in the league.
