Kim Caldwell, the coach of Lady Vols basketball, has brought on board a new director of sports performance.

Nolan Harvath, who has been part of the West Virginia strength and conditioning staff since December 2020, was unveiled as the fresh addition to the Lady Vols basketball team’s sports performance department on Thursday. Harvath shares a history with Caldwell, having previously collaborated at Division II Glenville (W.Va.) State.

Expressing her confidence in Harvath, Caldwell stated in a school announcement, “I have had the pleasure of working with Nolan in the past, and he knows what we are trying to accomplish. He sees the vision we have and is dedicated to making sure we are the hardest-working team in the country. I know he is going to show up to work focused on ensuring our program is getting better every single day.”

Harvath steps into the role previously held by Bryan Tatum, who did not continue with the previous staff.

Most recently, Harvath served as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at WVU, primarily working with the football team since spring 2022. Initially brought in to assist with the baseball and golf programs, he transitioned to the football team. Prior to his tenure at West Virginia, Harvath served as the director of strength and conditioning at Glenville State from 2018 to 2020, concurrently holding the position of assistant athletic director from 2019 to 2020.

A native of Fairmont, West Virginia, Harvath graduated with a degree in exercise science from the University of Southern Indiana in 2013, where he also played on the men’s soccer team. He furthered his education by obtaining a master’s in athletic coaching education from WVU in 2016.

Harvath’s professional journey began during his senior year at USI, where he worked at the Sports Acceleration Center in Evansville, Indiana. Subsequently, he served as a strength and conditioning coach at the high school level from 2013 to 2017 at his alma mater, East Fairmont High, and Morgantown High. He also collaborated with Pro Performance in Morgantown.

His trajectory continued with a stint as a strength and conditioning intern at WVU, focusing on the football team. Additionally, he served as a consultant for the University of Charleston baseball team from 2016 to 2020.
