Marvin Harrison Jr.? Colts Insider reveals GM Chris Ballard’s plans in the draft.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The countdown to the 2024 NFL Draft is nearly over for the Indianapolis Colts.

At 8 p.m. on Thursday, the draft will commence, and the Colts will be making their selection with the No. 15 overall pick.

Colts General Manager Chris Ballard is facing a significant task in this year’s draft, aiming to construct a formidable roster around last year’s No. 4 overall pick, quarterback Anthony Richardson.

Kevin Bowen, News 8’s Colts Insider and host of “The Wake Up Call with KB and Andy” on 93.5/107.5 The Fan in Indianapolis, elaborated on Ballard’s objective of building around the young quarterback.

“With Anthony Richardson as the foundational piece, the goal is to ensure sustained success through impactful draft picks,” Bowen remarked.

Speaking with News 8 Sports Director Anthony Calhoun, Bowen delved into the potential impact of acquiring a talent like former Georgia tight end Brock Bowers on the Colts’ offense under the guidance of head coach Shane Steichen.

“Brock Bowers is an exceptional player,” Bowen stated. “His versatility and dominance in the college football landscape make him an enticing addition to a position group currently lacking a true No. 1 option. Much like Dallas Clark’s significance to Peyton Manning, adding a versatile tight end of Bowers’ caliber would undoubtedly elevate Anthony Richardson’s arsenal.”

Bowen and AC also explored the possibility of Chris Ballard deviating from his customary approach and trading up in the first round.

“I would advocate for trading up because quality trumps quantity at this stage,” Bowen affirmed. “With all 22 starters set to return, it’s an opportune moment to infuse the roster with elite talent. Shane Steichen’s admiration for Bowers is evident, and considering the impact high-level tight ends had on the NFL’s top teams last season, targeting a player of Bowers’ caliber seems prudent.”

The 2024 NFL Draft kicks off at 8 p.m. on Thursday in Detroit with the entirety of the first round. Rounds two and three will commence at 7 p.m. on Friday, followed by rounds four through seven on Saturday at noon.
