Alabama’s Jase McClellan drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the sixth round of the NFL Draft.
Alabama football’s running back Jase McClellan was selected by the Atlanta Falcons in the sixth round of the NFL Draft at pick No. 186 on Saturday, making him the eighth Alabama player chosen in the 2024 draft.
McClellan served as Alabama’s primary running back in 2023, sharing carries with Roydell Williams throughout the season. He rushed for 890 yards and eight touchdowns in his final collegiate season, appearing in 12 out of 13 games. While he missed the SEC championship game due to injury, he returned for the Rose Bowl, scoring two touchdowns.
Originally from Texas, McClellan joined Alabama as part of the 2020 recruiting class. He initially contributed on special teams during his freshman year before seeing increased playing time as a sophomore. His 2021 season was shortened by a knee injury, but he bounced back in 2022 to become Alabama’s backup running back before ascending to the top of the depth chart for his senior year.
McClellan was the second Alabama player chosen on the third day of the draft. Earlier, defensive end Justin Eboigbe was selected by the Los Angeles Chargers at pick No. 105.
The Atlanta Falcons, who finished 7-10 last season and missed the playoffs, selected McClellan amidst changes in coaching staff. Head coach Arthur Smith was relieved of his duties, and Raheem Morris will lead the team in the 2024 season.
