Adou Thiero chooses Arkansas and Coach John Calipari in Transfer Portal Following Departure from Kentucky
Adou Thiero, formerly of Kentucky, has decided to join the Arkansas team, as reported by Joe Tipton of On3. Thiero opted for Arkansas after entering the transfer portal in March, coinciding with coach John Calipari’s departure from Kentucky. This move reunites him with Calipari in Fayetteville.
During his time at UK, Thiero, as a sophomore, maintained averages of 7.2 points and 5.0 rebounds per game in 21.4 minutes of play. Recognized for his defensive contributions by The Athletic’s Sam Vecenie, Thiero was praised for his disruptive presence on the court, particularly in rebounding. While his offensive impact was more limited, Vecenie noted his consistency in executing essential tasks.
With Calipari taking over at Arkansas, he faces a significant rebuilding task due to the departure of many players either through graduation, NBA draft declarations, or transfers. This prompts speculation about how many players Calipari might recruit from his former team.
Thiero becomes the second former Kentucky player to commit to the Razorbacks, following Zvonimir IviÅ¡ić’s decision in April. Additionally, Karter Knox, Billy Richmond, and Boogie Fland, initially committed to Kentucky, have changed their commitment to Arkansas. Calipari has also secured commitments from former FAU guard Johnell Davis and former Tennessee center Jonas Aidoo through the transfer portal.
Calipari and his staff have worked efficiently to shape their squad despite the limited time available. However, due to the significant turnover, expectations for the Razorbacks’ immediate performance remain tempered. Nonetheless, Calipari’s progress towards his long-term goal of establishing Arkansas as a Final Four contender seems promising, surpassing initial expectations.
