Emotional Saga: Gavin Freeman’s commitment to OSU was cancelled due to….

Oklahoma State secures commitment from wide receiver transfer formerly with the Oklahoma Sooners.

Oklahoma State secures a wide receiver transfer from their rival university.

Gavin Freeman, formerly with Oklahoma, declared his commitment to OSU on Sunday. With an already formidable offense set to return, Freeman’s addition provides another target for Alan Bowman.

Despite appearing in every game for OU over the past two seasons, Freeman hasn’t attained the desired level of productivity and role. In 2023, he contributed solidly to the Sooners’ offense, tallying 19 receptions for 95 yards and a touchdown. One of his standout performances was in the victory against Arkansas State, where he caught four passes for 19 yards and a touchdown, showcasing additional skills with a punt return touchdown in the same game.

Prior to that season, Freeman’s opportunities were even more restricted, but he still managed notable moments, notably a crucial 41-yard reception in a win against Kansas, one of his three receptions that season. In 2022, he also exhibited his versatility with seven rushes for 71 yards and a touchdown.

Standing at 5-foot-8, 189 pounds, Freeman’s agility could be a valuable asset for OSU in the upcoming season.

While some players, like Trace Ford last year, have transferred from OSU to OU, Freeman’s move reverses that trend. His commitment is a significant acquisition for Mike Gundy’s squad as they prepare for the challenges of a revamped Big 12 in the upcoming season.

OSU finished the previous season with a 10-4 record and a Big 12 Championship appearance in Arlington. With a wealth of returning talent, they are poised to be contenders in the conference once more. Players like Freeman enhance their prospects of clinching their first conference title since 2011 and potentially securing their inaugural College Football Playoff berth.
