UNC Basketball: Emerging Recruit Responds to Tar Heel Offer.
Although reports of UNC basketball’s interest in Gonzaga College High School (D.C.) guard Derek Dixon are only a few days old, the Tar Heels’ offer on Monday night seemed appropriate given his impressive performance in front of head coach Hubert Davis during the recent Nike EYBL event in Indianapolis.
Dixon is ranked No. 64 overall on the 247Sports 2025 Composite, which is lower than most of UNC’s 2025 targets. However, the 6-foot-3, 190-pound four-star looks deserving of a rankings boost due to his 16.0 points per game for the 9-1 Team Takeover squad across three EYBL sessions.
Dixon expressed his excitement about the UNC offer, saying, “Playing for a storied program like UNC would be great. They play in a great conference and are historically one of the best teams in the country year after year, so being recruited by a school like that is awesome,” he told Zagsblog’s Charlie Parent.
Dixon’s offer sheet includes other ACC schools such as Virginia, Pitt, Virginia Tech, Syracuse, and Miami, with only Virginia and Pitt having hosted him for visits.
Dixon is one of four 2025 four-stars who announced offers from UNC during the Tar Heels’ Monday offer spree. The others are forward Nikolas Khamenia from Harvard-Westlake School (Calif.), center Malachi Moreno from Great Crossing High School (Ky.), and guard Braylon Mullins from Greenfield-Central School (Ind.).
Additionally, Highland School (Va.) five-star forward Nate Ament revealed his offer from Hubert Davis on Tuesday night, joining nine other composite five-stars on UNC’s now 14-deep 2025 basketball wishlist.
