Charlton Athletic is eyeing the possibility of signing the goalkeeper from Cambridge United, who is set to become a free agent.
Charlton Athletic have shown interest in acquiring former AFC Wimbledon prospect Will Mannion. The 26-year-old goalkeeper is poised to become a free agent this summer after declining a contract extension from Cambridge United. It appears likely that Mannion will seek opportunities elsewhere.
According to reports from the South London Press, Charlton is aiming to bolster their goalkeeping department by recruiting two shot-stoppers in the upcoming transfer window. They are also looking to secure an experienced goalkeeper to compete for the starting position.
Mannion featured in the final nine matches of the League One season for Cambridge United, contributing to the team’s survival in the division. He began his career at Wimbledon at the age of 16 before signing a three-year deal with Hull City in July 2016, with an initial fee of £100,000 determined by a tribunal. Mannion has represented his country twice at the U19 level.
While Charlton currently has Harry Isted and Ashley Maynard-Brewer under contract for the next season, the club is committed to restructuring its goalkeeper roster under the leadership of manager Jones.
