Former Texas Longhorns linebacker DeMarvion Overshown is ‘ahead of schedule’ in his rehab for the Dallas Cowboys.
DeMarvion Overshown’s rookie season with the Dallas Cowboys ended before it began, but the former Texas Longhorns linebacker is making a strong comeback.
A third-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Overshown tore his ACL on August 19 during a preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks. This injury sidelined him for the entire regular season, forcing him to focus on rehabilitation instead of contributing to Dan Quinn’s defense.
With the 2024 preseason still a few months away, head coach Mike McCarthy has indicated that Overshown could be ready for the start of training camp and beyond.
“D-Mo actually looks really good,” McCarthy said. “We’re respecting the timeline. If I was a doctor, which I’m not, I’d say he’s a little ahead of schedule.”
Overshown mentioned he has gained about 13 pounds of lean muscle mass during his recovery, although he hasn’t yet returned to practice, which he finds unusual.
“It’s kinda crazy, I ain’t played football going on a year now,” Overshown said. “That’s been the longest I haven’t played since I started playing and that was (at) 6 years old.”
During his five seasons at Texas, Overshown recorded 248 total tackles, 17 passes defended, nine sacks, and three interceptions.
Dallas begins its mandatory minicamp on Tuesday, June 4, with training camp starting in late July. Overshown’s first opportunity to play in a game setting will be on Sunday, August 11, when the Cowboys face the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium in their first of three preseason games.
