The Detroit Lions have parted ways with former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle Isaiah Buggs just ahead of the playoffs, as reported by NFL Network’s Tom Peliserro. This move, releasing the former sixth-round pick, is to accommodate the return of another defender.

Having joined the Lions last season subsequent to his departure from the Steelers in 2021, Buggs participated in 27 games, starting in 16 of them. In the current season, he appeared in 10 games, commencing three, and tallied 12 tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack, and one fumble recovery.

This decision opens up a roster slot for defensive tackle Alim McNeill, who is anticipated to come back from Injured Reserve in time for Week 18’s match. McNeill had been sidelined for four weeks due to a knee sprain.

During his tenure with the Steelers spanning three seasons, Buggs played in 29 games, with seven starts, and accumulated 31 tackles.
