Ty Lawson is back on the court, pursuing another championship.
It’s been 15 years since Ty Lawson helped Roy Williams and the UNC basketball program secure their fifth championship banner in Chapel Hill, and Lawson is still thriving.
Following a nine-year NBA career, the former ACC Player of the Year has played overseas in China, Greece, and most recently, Venezuela in 2023. During the 2019-20 season with Fujian Xunxing in the Chinese Basketball League, Lawson averaged 27.3 points per game.
Now 36, Lawson will continue his basketball journey this summer with the LA Ignite in The Basketball Tournament (TBT).
TBT is a 64-team single-elimination tournament held every summer since 2014, featuring a diverse array of basketball talent from around the globe, including former NCAA, NBA, and international players. The winning team takes home a $1 million prize.
Notable players in the 2023 tournament included former Syracuse guard Jimmy Boeheim and three-time All-Big Ten forward Robbie Hummel from Purdue. Over the years, several memorable NBA players like Jason Williams, Mike Bibby, and Jimmer Fredette have participated.
Lawson will team up with former UCONN standout Tarin Smith, the 2018 Atlantic-10 Sixth Man of the Year, and LA Ignite head coach Vicken Eskidjian, who enjoyed an 18-year professional FIBA basketball career.
The Basketball Tournament kicks off on July 19, with Lawson and the Ignite debuting in the regional portion at the University of Houston in Texas.
